MICHAEL BAY | PARAMOUNT PICTURES
MAIN ON END LIVE ACTION | TITLE SEQUENCE

Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain, starring Mark Wahlberg, is based on the unbelievable true story of a group of personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in a misguided search for the American Dream, launch a criminal caper that goes horribly wrong. Prologue created the main on end credit sequence along with an opening title for the film.
Taking its cue from the day-glo neon colors in fashion with bodybuilders at the time of the story, and associated with Miami in particular, the main on end sequence uses animated splatters of over-saturated color as a motif. This establishes a visual language linking together the themes of fitness, vanity, and murder. The neon splashes aim to unify the montage and contribute intensity of movement and color.
Prologue shot live-action of body builders flexing for the camera. We combined flashes of this imagery into a fast-paced epilogue including still photos of the real-life perpetrators, their murder weapons, the crime scene, court documents, and footage of weightlifter’s various fuel sources— both legal and illegal.
