Prologue’s main title design for The Purge: Anarchy combines an authorial look for the government-approved “Purge,” with a chaotic tinge to represent the consequence of the program’s existence. The lettering of “The Purge,” is presented in clean, white, lettering next to an official government seal. Meanwhile the subtitle, “Anarchy,” appears in red with parts of the letters missing to show the disorganization of the purge. This is accompanied by an animation reminiscent of blood, as red and white stripes drip from the government seal. This design of this title perfectly encapsulates the concept of government avowed chaos. Prologue continues this theme in the end title sequence for the film. By using negative space to create the typography, the sequence suggests that the “Purge” brings out the worst in people. The rest of the frame is filled with live action footage of chaos, destruction, and images of the American Flag. This reinforces the theme of government-approved mayhem.
